Villa Tropical - Beachfront Apartments in Puerto Rico

Aerial View "Shacks…has an aesthetic quality that many other spots lack. A small group of houses line a short stretch of what is eight miles of otherwise undeveloped beach, snaking its way along the coast from Jobos, in the east to the appropriately named 'Survival Beach' five miles or so to the west, where the sand abruptly meets a tall unscalable cliff. This is a place where you can indulge in those Robinson Crusoe fantasies without as much as Friday's foot prints in the white coral sand.

Underwater Image "Apart from the windsurfing, Shacks also possesses the best snorkeling and inshore diving in Puerto Rico. Just upwind of the wavesailing break, the reef is riddled with caves and holes which provide shelter for myriads of tropical reef fish in every shade and colour imaginable. The sea here brims with marine life. A lack of any proper port along this stretch of coast makes commercial fishing small in scale and, consequently, the ocean reveals its true abundance. As you plane by on your windsurfer you will see swarms of flying fish angling their wings against the wind in their bid to escape from you, the perceived predator. Hawksbill turtles will eye you impassionately and then slowly sink from view. Frigate birds wing their way over the swells, pausing to examine your sail and then banking away to pursue their pelagic lifestyle. Then the most awe inspiring of them all, a humpback whale breaches in the distance, throwing his enormous fifty foot long bulk skyward in an exultation of pleasure before landing in a cloud of spray to continue the migration northward to the arctic feeding grounds.

Sunset "For those who surf as well as wavesail northwest Puerto Rico comes close to paradise. A good day consists of three hour dawn patrol surfing session, followed by an afternoon wavesailing interrupted only by a refueling stop, i.e.: a big lunch. The trades rarely kick in before 10 am and early risers can avail of the glassy conditions." (Niall Barett, Windsurf Magazine, June 1992 (no. 116), pp. 14-15).
