About Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico, officially called the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, is a Caribbean island and unincorporated U.S. Territory known for its pristine waters and idyllic landscape of mountains, waterfalls, beaches and rainforest.
There are 78 municipalities of which 44 have coastline. There are over 300 named beaches (and some sources count 3 times as many).
The El Yunque National Forest is the only tropical rain forest in the United States. Entrance passes are to be purchased online in advance.
Puerto Rico is nicknamed the Island of Enchantment / La Isla del Encanto.
American citizens traveling to Puerto Rico from the mainland US, do not need Passports to travel.
Puerto Rico uses US currency. Most ATM cards work in PR. The official languages of the island are both Spanish and English but Spanish is most often spoken. The locals are accustomed to tourists from around the globe.
There are two major airports and a few smaller ones. BQN is closest to Villa Tropical, just 15 minutes away. SJU in the metropolis of San Juan is 2.5 hours away.
If you travel with necessary medicines, bring your prescriptions and you’ll be completely assisted if needed at a local pharmacy.
There are no poisonous snakes on the Island, there are iguanas, but they are more afraid of you then you of them.
Luckily there are no fast-food joints in sight from Villa Tropical but within a 10-40 minute drive one can find Walgreens, Walmart, Kmart, Sams Club, Costco, and Home Depot. Ola Lola’s is the local eatery and hangout and it’s only a 3-minute walk away. Most modern conveniences are attainable.
The Villa Tropical Hotel is located in the NW corner of Puerto Rico in Isabela, on the edge of Aguadilla, on Shacks Beach. There is just simply so much to see and do here that you will want to commit some time to relaxing on your deck and some time to site-seeing. Villa Tropical is pivotally located for the explorer types to achieve day trips to just about anywhere you want to go on La Isla del Encanto.
